Boys tennis: Ann Arbor Greenhills defeats Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 7-1 on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018

 

    Division 4 No. 1-ranked Ann Arbor Greenhills downed two-time defending Michigan High School Athletic Association boys tennis champion Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 7-1 on Thursday, Sept. 27, at Liggett.

   After winning eight straight Division 4 championships from 2008 to 2015, Greenhills finished runner-up to Liggett the past two seasons.

   On Thursday, Greenhills swept doubles flights with the teams of Trey Feldeisen and Henry Branch (No. 1), Drake Rosenberg and Joey Formicola (No. 2), Nathan Rosenberg and Finn Feldeisen (No. 3), and Harrison Li and Alex Schwenderman (No. 4) earning victories.

   Kaan Oral (No. 2), Mert Oral (No. 3), and Taha Zirapury (No. 4) had singles victories. Greenhills’ No. 1 singles player Sahil Deenadayalu lost a hard-fought match to Liggett’s William Cooksey, defending state champion at No. 1 singles.

   The Gryphons improved to 5-2-1 in dual meets with the victory. Greenhills losses came against Division 1 No. 2 Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice and Division 2 No. 1 Okemos. Greenhills tied Division 3 No. 1 Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood.

   The Gryphons also have four tournament victories on the season.

   Greenhills hosts University of Detroit Jesuit today, Sept. 28.
