   Division 1 co-No. 1-ranked Bloomfield Hills downed shorthanded Division 3 No. 1-ranked Ann Arbor Greenhills 7-1 in a battle of perennial boys tennis powers on Monday, Sept. 27, at Greenhills.

   Greenhills was without senior Mert Oral at No. 1 singles and  junior Chakor Sankaran-Rajendra  at No. 3 singles due to injuries. Oral is two-time defending Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 No. 1 singles champion.

   Bloomfield Hills lost eight players to graduation but hasn’t lost a beat this season.

   On Monday, the Black Hawks’ only senior, Noah Roslin, won by forfeit at No. 1 singles due to Oral’s injury.

   Junior Daniel Stojanov (No. 2) and freshman Pierce Shaya (No. 3) also earned singles wins for Bloomfield Hills against Greenhills.

   Bloomfield Hills swept the doubles flights with junior Toni Vasile and sophomore Merrick Chernett (No. 1), sophomores Michael Dillion and Ryan Rose (No. 2), junior Drew Davis and sophomore Kierth Lingam (No. 3), and freshman Asher Langwell and senior Brandon Ho (No. 4) earning victories.

   Bloomfield Hills improved to 11-1-0 on the season. It’s only loss coming to Division 1 co-No. 1 Troy (5-4) on a No. 5 singles tiebreaker.

   Bloomfield Hills will compete in the MHSAA Division 1, Region 7

tournament on Thursday, Oct. 7, at Clarkston.

   Greenhills fell to 12-2-0 on the season. It’s only losses coming to Bloomfield Hills and Troy (5-3).

   Greenhills hosts Division 3 No. 3-ranked Detroit Country Day on Wednesday and Division 4 No. 1-ranked Traverse City St. Francis on Friday.

   Greenhills will compete for the Catholic High School League championship against a loaded field on Saturday at Division 3 No. 2-ranked Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood. Division 1 co-No. 9 ranked Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice, Division 1 co-No. 9 ranked Detroit Catholic Central, and Division 2 No. 3 University of Detroit Jesuit will also vie for the CHSL title.

   Greenhills will host the Division 3, Region 20 tournament on Thursday, Oct. 7. Country Day also competes in the regional.

   The MHSAA boys tennis championships are Oct. 15-16. Division 1 will be in the Kalamazoo area. Division 3 will be in the Midland area.

   Bloomfield Hills was Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 champion under head coach Greg Burks in 2017 and 2018. It was co-champion with Novi in 2015.

   Greenhills was Division 3 runner up last season to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood and was D3 champion in 2019 under longtime coach Eric Gajar. Greenhills won Division 4 championships in 2003, 2004, 2007 (spring), 2008-2105 and in 2018.
